Mantle of Love

Three months, yes, three months of use out of those
mercury glass candlesticks on my mantle.

I think that is a record for ANYTHING sitting on my mantle.
But they looked so good there at Christmas,
and I loved the reflection of light in January,
and there is nothing more romantic
than candlelight for the month of Valentine's.

So I've decided to go against my usual tendencies to change everything
on the mantle and just go with it one more month.

I'm pretty sure that things will change next month. . . . .
maybe even the color of the paint.

Silver and Flakes

Even though the holidays are over
I kept out my silver mercury glass.

Then I added a few flakes and some faux orchids

to make my mantle look perfect

for the snowy month of January.

Ingredients of a Fall Mantle

Start with a substantial piece like an old window,

add in a few pumpkins,

and turkeys,

and layers and layers of leaves and berries.

Mix them together to form the perfect fall mantle.

Savor or Rush

I am one to savor all the months of fall.

I know there are many who have already rushed into decorating for winter
and Christmas, but November still means autumn to me.
It's the month to slow down, relax, enjoy,
and take time to contemplate all of my blessings.

Seasonal Decorating

When I think about decorating for the seasons naturally what comes to mind are the jewel tones of fall, the reds and greens of Christmas, and the pastels of spring and Easter. But as I looked around my home I've noticed that the greens of summer have infiltrated my home in the form of faux plants and moss balls, with a few florals thrown in for good measure.
